Rules for Boys Teams   Rules like Off-sides

NISL League Rules:  As U9 we now play 8 v 8 for 2x30 min. halves.  On a field roughly 75yards x 50yards  Goals are 18.5' x 6.5' A team may have up to 14 on the roster. Officials have begun to call Off-sides for the 1st time.  Off-sides is a confusing concept and the boys will likely find that a little time at a the home computer helps them to understand these rules.  When you click the link to FIFA above select: "HTML English laws of the game 2005"  and you get the benefit of very clear example slides of rules like off-sides. (Don may even print these to carry them in his pocket during games).

Rules & Regs

Referee Assignor:  Michael Pratt had a poor season with several games were referee no shows.  We are pursuing a better service for Spring

As far as the new Ref Assignor (Steve Jablow), I got his name off the NISL website.  All the assignors are listed and the teams they're responsible for are next to them.  The website isn't updated, but when I spoke to him yesterday, he told me that he currently assigns for Team Chicago, Aurora Kickers, and Deportivo Chivas.  I contacted NISL to get his phone number.  He was the closest to us, and I was looking for someone very local with the assumption that they would know the most refs.   -  Kathy

Fall Divisions Announced:

U9 Red Team is in the Gold South Division with Naperville Lightning, A.J.A.X. (Naperville), Lemont Raiders, Orland Park, and Summit Eagles.  Summit Eagles are the only team we played during the tourney - last game on Sunday, we tied them 1-1.

U9 White Team is in the Bronze South Division with Woodridge Storm, Midwest Wings (Park Forest - about 45 minutes south of Naperville), Team Chicago Select (Aurora), HUSA Green (Hinsdale), Illinois Premier (Downers Grove).

Practices:

We have a goal to offer quality opportunities for the team and individuals to improve through Practice.  Trainer Practices are focused on skill fundamentals for the whole team with an Exceptional trainer.  Coaches practices are to supplement and guide the skills the Players should be practicing at home.    It is not necessary to call or email us if you are missing a couple of practices because it is too hard for us to keep all that straight anyway.  However Practice is important.  Game Playing time will often reflect a players effort at practice.  See Attendance procedures below. See your team page for current practice schedules

Attendance Procedures:  It is not important to keep us posted about planning to miss a practice here and there.  If you are not there we can figure it out. However Practice is important.  Game Playing time will often reflect a players effort at practice. Further it is important that we have enough players for a game so please email White Team or Red Team email  Jim E  you are planning a trip, football game, or something that will effect a game or tournament.  If Jim E knows about it he will post it on this page on by the upcoming games section.   Last minute illnesses, traffic problems etc should be a phone call and email when possible.  Please contact your teams coaches as they are the ones who will deal with lineups.  We may put on a couple of eligible subs on the league roster but you may need to work out uniforms for the sub. Red Team call Don, Craig and or Nancy.   White Team call Jim H, JD Hill, and or Brian Schroder  Cobras contact Mark Landiak or Scott Peterson  Girls contacts Julie and Harry Duin

Weather Cancellations  In light rain we would prefer to hold a fun but damp practice.  Practice will be cancelled if it is pouring rain, cold and rainy, or lightning.   We can cancel at the last minute if weather changes.  Use your judgment.  Practice is of course optional as a rule.  For home games if it is so muddy that we would be damaging the fields we will cancel. We will attempt to use the Tele-mail system for last minute cancellations.

Got a Digital Camera?  We need Soccer photos of each team!

Challengers Photo Gallery   To help you get to know each other we have posted a photo gallery.  The gallery has a series of collections.  Every player has a photo somewhere on the site.   I am sure that there are others who have some photos.  For example I never got that team photo we took with the Tournament trophy.  This gallery may also be a nice site to email to your Grandparents.  Email a few favorite challengers photos to:  production@cooppros.com and we will post them.

Old Photos may be removed to make room for the new ones because the Carlston's have taken so many new good photos that we are going to run out of web space  for the old photos as we replace them with then new ones.  If you have a favorite photos you may want to download it now.  Here is how.  1. Click the camera above, go to the photo Gallery.  On the right margin is a search function.  2. Put in the 1st name and click "GO"   3. click the photo  4. Left Click "Full Size"    5. Right click the photo and select "Save Picture As"  You may also want to choose a directory on your computer for photos.  Most people have a directory called "My Pictures" that works well for this purpose.

Equipment Clothing & Uniforms:  We play our games with size 4 balls.  Please bring some sort of ball, wear shin guards, and bring water to games and practices.  We also prefer a reversible Gold and Blue Practice Jersey for practice.  This helps with drills. Please keep one in your soccer backpack.  Watch the Naperville Hourly Weather Forecast: and dress in layers for cooler than expected weather.  It is easier to peal off a layer when you get hot.  Bring both color team jersey's and your gold and blue Practice Jersey to all games.  If we play a  similar color team we will need options. Further Goalie jerseys are always in shor supply.  Most of our uniforms are available at the Soccer Post but we usually order together as a team.  Due to Several delays and poor quality of service we will be perusing a different vendor in the future.  Let us know if you have had a good experience with a more organized quality vendor either local or Online

Rosters:  Are only sent out via Email.  We will send updates to your team manager if you have changes.   Official sub must have player cards and te registered with the club and league office.    We now have 11 on each team with an extra sub on White. Any player can occasionally play up an age or level (if we remember to bring the player card).  We are unsure but it appears that in Tournament play we can have about 2 guest players from any team.  For League games Players can usually not "play down" on to a lower Division although we are not sure how that would could be policed.

NPD Field Allocation: The Park District is running short on field space during prime times like Sunday afternoons.  This was not of course our 1st choice of times.  The District had a meeting on July 26 to discuss long term field allocation policies.  Football and soccer organizations were invited.  I (Jim E) represented us.  It is his prediction that long term the Park District will model the field allocation policy after St. Charles PD.  The effects on the challengers would be favorable because of our high % residency and our philosophy aligned with the PD values.  However to capitalize on our advantages we may have to work towards formalizing our organization, philosophies and our income tax status.   Jan 06the NPD has drafted its own NPD Field Allocation Guide

Challengers Spring '06 Normal Home field NPD allocation priority times (exact field locations may be rotated by Park District maintenance)

U8-9 Girls Small Fields - Arrowhead Park 3-4pm Sundays (South Field)

    U9 U10 Boys Medium Field - Sundays

U9 U10 Boys Medium Field -  (North field)  (see sunset times)

    U9 U10 Boys Medium Field -  Sundays

Tele-mail Phone Tree:  You do not have to make any calls but we still need your help.  The Ensign have donated the use of their Trinsic Center Tele-mail system for last minute changes like severe weather etc.  Tele-mail is an automated system that replaces phone trees and delivers a recorded or text-to-speech-generated message to a distribution list.  Challengers have a Red and White Distribution List for Tele-mail which calls every phone number we have for you simultaneously and then emails a report as to how it was delivered.  If you receive one of our messages live that is great.  Please listen carefully all the way to the end and then respond appropriately to confirm delivery.  To keep your notes to a minimum generally we will try to keep these messages short and when appropriate we will send out a follow up email and update this page too.  If you have something urgent call and or text page Jim.  If you want to learn to send our Tele-mails yourself call Jim at 630-717-7757 or 630-878-5680.

Volunteering:   Do you have a computer, accounting, social, web, or other skill?  Want to Learn?  Can you help us rename photos on a computer?  Don't keep your talents under a bushel.  Let Jim Ensign know if you would like to help somehow.  We always have room for improvement and for your assistance.  For example, we currently are looking to put together a couple equipment bags and 1st aid kits.  Any volunteers to do some legwork on these things? We may also may want to try submitting a couple of stories to the Naperville Sun.  If you can help  Email  Jim E

 New Web Addresses!

At a historic meeting between the 4 teams Jan 30 2006, teams discussed Club Formation.  Working towards combining communications and finances to save time, money and to maintain stability and harmony for the teams.  Many details to be worked out.  One concern about combining is how a new team's behavior might effect the "Club"  Jim Suggested that if we center around a Philosophy like the Positive Coaching Program we might be able to better handle most conflict might arise.  The meeting was called to discuss how we could handle referee assignors but quickly expanded.  Kathy Mullen (U10) has found an Assignor and we agreed to give that a try.  We intend to pay a $6 bonus per game based on performance for a more effective Referee Assignor.

The meeting took on new direction when Scott Peterson suggested combining finances and communications might be more efficient.   We may   find a way to hire an administrative person part time to handle these functions.  It could be an existing person or somebody new.  An insider is preferred.  Costs could be shared per player.  Maureen Guttosch is the Treasurer for the U9 teams.  She said she would consider handling the finances through the Challengers Soccer Club checking account if teams could submit a Roster, rough budget and generally keep her informed on what is going on at least season by season basis.  Jim agreed to buy this domain and coordinate posting this website for the 1st time.  We will move towards coordinated efforts at maintaining the site.  A shell or template is posted and U9 info is up.  However I we have little information for u10 and Girls pages so most of the links are currently dead links.  Not for Profit Status was also discussed.  We are not sure it is worth the effort but it may help us post flyers in schools and to get field use priority from the Park District.

While we suggested many things little was decided except that we will get this web domain and that we will try this new ref assignor.  Stay tuned.  More information coming Soon.
